The Star Online reported that Malaysian authorities will conduct their own investigation into the discovery of death camps for illegal immigrants in southern Thailand, near the Malaysian border, quoting Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi vowed vowed that the authorities would get to the bottom of the matter.

“Rest assured that we will investigate the matter thoroughly.

“We will work closely with Thai police and its authorities on the mass graveyard of immigrants discovered in southern Thailand,” he said yesterday.

Although the graves were not on Malaysian soil, Dr Ahmad Zahid said the matter should be taken seriously due to the proximity of the two countries.

Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Friday called for a three-way meeting with neighbors Malaysia and Myanmar to try to resolve a regional human trafficking crisis following the discovery of a mass grave in Songkhla province.

Thirty-three bodies, believed to be migrants from Myanmar and Bangladesh, have been found in shallow graves over the past week in Songkhla province, near the Malaysian border. Three suspected trafficking camps have also been found.
